Beam vs. Beta9

Beta9 is the open-source runtime behind Beam. Beam Cloud adds a managed workspace, dashboard, billing, and hosted services; deploying Beta9 does not automatically provide every Cloud feature.

The SDK programming model is shared, but a self-hosted installation needs its own gateway configuration and credentials:

CLI Commands	beam serve app.py:function	beta9 serve app.py:function

Install Python packages in a project virtual environment when using the SDK. An isolated CLI installation does not make imports available to your project.
